This is the idea I was referring to a couple weeks ago.
We start our own hobby store. This could be done completely online. No need for a brick and mortar site until we build up our memorabilia inventory.
Right now, the markup on frames and displays for autographed jerseys & equipment is huge. We could make our own products, some of them are really easy to make. I made one myself for my hockey pucks that took maybe an hour's worth of work to do (Cutting the wood, staining, and putting it together). If we did the work ourselves we could market our products to hobby stores from everywhere.
Right now just to have a jersey framed costs between $100 and $250 dollars and that is without the actual jersey. For about $40 worth of materials we could do this ourselves and make some huge profit margins.
Also, we could also be in the business of selling our own framed merchandise. For instance I am attending a Penguins signing and I am getting 3 hockey sticks signed. These signings don't cost much to attend and the potential for profits is even higher, especially if the players are good. For instance, my signing consists of Staal, Letang and Matt Cooke. If you look up the Staal stuff online it is pretty pricey.
This is something we could do part time, right now, without much effort.
I could make some of the simpler displays, Josh, Jerry and maybe Justin could make some of the more complex one's. Justin could handle the website. Doug, myself and whoever else wants to come along can help out with sales and drumming new business. We could all have a hand in collecting autographs and it wouldn't be too time consuming. I think this is something we could jump on right now. We could start by selling on ebay and if it takes off we could do something on our own site. Who's in?
